A few weeks ago all of the senior school has gone class by class to the hall to make art on a diamond. This art had to be things by the stream every class had a  diffrent part. Our class had the end where the stream was nice and tidy. The beautiful plants and animals are back to live in the safe and clean stream. 180 people did a diamonds and we all had fun.All the the art work was put on to a big tanwha. the tanwha was put on the pool wall. Were all proud of our work and now it can be there for every one to   we really enjoyed doing the art.

Busy, busy, busy room 22

WOW!!
It is week 5 already!!
We have been so busy this term I thought i would take a minute to let you know what we have been up to.

Maths 
Room 22 have been reflecting on our maths learning and have realised that we all have different needs. The students have highlighted the areas they need to work on and are busy working on their individual learning pathways.

Literacy
We have used some of our reading and writing time to read and gather information on a range of animals, summerise our learnign and create information boards. We have also looked at brochures and have begun to create our own visitors brochures. we have studied personification poetry and written some fireworks poems. Some of our published work is on the blog. We have read and discussed a range of texts, and practised a few plays to improve our fluency, intonation and  comprehension as well as being able to use our creative flair.

PE
We have been practicing the skills needed for athletics events and are looking forward to athletics day in week 5. (Tuesday 13th November)

ART
We have made some awesome calendar art, and are now working on an embossed name plate. Later in the term we will be using our skills to create a scale for a very special piece of art.........!!

ZOO INQUIRY
I am sure you have all heard about the zoo inquiry we are doing. Each group has designed and created their own zoo taking into account the needs of the animals and visitors. They have planned, and drawn their plans on grided paper. They have researched the animals in their zoos and summerised their learning in the form of an information board. they have used google docs to publish their information boards on each animal. (I am slowly uploading them to the blog) They have begun to make decisions for fencing and flooring and are busy costing these items. Our next step will be to design shelters for the enclosures and later on create enrichment activities for the animals.

We have already had many events and special days this term including:

• flower show day
• grandparents day

and best of all......

• YEAR 5 CAMP!!!!!!!

On the 25th of september the a,b and the Girls soccer team played in a interschool competition

i was in the a team our first game we won three nil we had 5 games we won four games and drew one we got into the finals against  holy cross we won five nil we were soooooooooooooooooooooo!! happy ethan took off his top and swung it around

mr elmer.mr elmer is so good at teching and i love his stile of learing.we played a taging game and i loved it.mr elmer would reword us if we did our work quikly.like we would do dogball tag or play on the playground.i also learnt a lot of stuff.my favourite part was when we vs room 17 in tag .mr elmer is the best teacher in the world.

this week we did graphic disign with Mr Elmer, graphic disign is when you draw pictures with shapes.

I drew a elephant, a spider, a jellyfish, a lizard and a turtle, it was really fun.

we also did points wih Mr elmer in total I got about a 1000.

In our class we have been studying an animal each.

I chose to study wild budgies.

I decided to do wild budgies because we have a class pet budgie named pebbles.

I enjoyed doing this.

Everyone did something different.

When we had finished researching, everyone paired up and made a slide show.

It was really fun!

On the 7th of September on friday there was an assembly. Room 22 & room 7 did a lion king play/dance together.We wore masks and "and I was a VULTURE".It was rather fun and their were blue mats like water.The animals were hippos, cheetahs, lions, hyenas, snakes, monkeys, gorillas, zebras, giraffes and of cause "VULTURES".

Also at the assembly the gymnastics team performed and I was in It.We did a sincronised  routine and I also did a routine by myself.Ben, Jacob, Kyle and Nathan did a cool tumble!!!!!!!!!

That was the coolest assembly I had been to!!!! It was awesome.

Beavers are my favourite animals.
The way they build there homes is amazing they swim to the bank of the river to collect wood to make there lodges there lodges spectacluar.the little tunnel leading to            the lodge.beavers eat wood there big teeth helps them gew though the wood.Beavers are amazing swimmers.

ORATIA SCHOOL DISCO   On the 24th of august it was the  oratia school disco. When I got there it had already started. I bought a  eye ball ring, a guitar necklass, a hand necklass, a drink, I found 2 glow sticks and a star necklass on the ground. I saw Harrison, Ezra, Lukah and Mrs laycock. At the junior school disco the bob the builder song was was on.

Tom

at the beggining of turm three tom came to oratia.tom comes from Korea to learn english. Tom staying nextdoor from wy house. Tom and hiss mum are stying in New Zealand for one turm. yesturday i went to To were Tom was staying. We played table tennis ,he beat me 4-2 then i beat him 3-2. 
After that we cocked biscuts and they were yum.
  At school Tom is super funny and Tom has loads of friends.

today at school we are making kowhaiwhai panels  if you wont to know how to make one well read this first cut a shape then get 2 bits of paper and cut them then get the 2 bits of paper that you cut stik them to gether only 2 bits  then get the shape that you cut and draw it on the paper then get a felt pen that is black and draw over the pen then get black white red paint and paint it then leve it to dry then the last thing to do is show it to your mum dad brother and sister by neve wolloner

On the 24 of friday it is the oratia school disco. everyone in the class is going . Last year they sold glow sticks rings that
you push and a light comes on in the in side.The food they sold last
year was hot dogs chips and somethings. The drinks they sold last
year was fizzy drinks and the drinks are cola normal grape lime orange and I think some more.I do not know the music that was played last time but if I did I would tell youn all i know is that it
was. We are really looking forward to going.

The Exhibition

Last week was the exhibition.We were only allowed to pick one thing to show it was a really hard chose I picked my onceler writing because it is funny and it is one of my Favorite writing.some people did there speeches some others did there pacific panting we did posers too.

The Oratia year five and six speeches were on Monday the 20th of August.
the year six speeches were in the middle block and the year five in the last bock. Each class voted two speeches they wanted to go in the final to represent their class. Mrs Swanepoel and Ms Binsley judged the year six speeches. Claudia Harris came 1st. In the year five finals Mrs Atkinson and Mrs Thomas judged. Lara in room 19 came 1st she did her speech on the 80's.

This Friday night the 24th of August. Oratia school are having a DISCO.

The juniors Disco is from 6 pm to 7pm and the seniors disco is from 7pm to 9pm.

If you want to go you need to buy a ticket witch is only 5$.

The disco is also a party where you can wear anything girls & boys you could wear your underpants on your head if you wanted to but I wouldn't. 

 So come on everyone lets get partying!

TERM 2

Term 2 was SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cool we got to go on trips oratia stream,boatanic gardens , read  with our buddy class,do art,maths,writing,reading and lots of games.wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

term 2

TERM 2 WAS SO FUN WE GOT UP TO A LOT OF STUFF WE WENT ON HEAPS OF TRIPS.WE WENT TO THE BOTANICAL GARDENS,WE WENT TO OUR ORATIA STREAM AND LEARNT A LOT ABOUT THE CREATURES THAT LIVED IN THERE,AND WE ALSO DID A LOT OF LEARNING AT SCHOOL.OUR BUDDY CLASS ROOM 7 WAS SOOOO GOOD AT READING AND WRITING.THANK YOU TO ALL THE TEACHERS AND PARENTS WHO CAME WITH US ON OUR TRIPS.

 On may Saturday the 12th it was my birthday . what I got was a 16 + tower bridge and a 14 + pirate ship .
 It took 4 days all together to build them both . It took three days to build the tower bridge ten after some    photos I started building the pirate ship. It took that same day and the next day . I finished that day .     

       I loved my Lego present.

Queen's birthday

     

The Queens birthday 

One the 4th of june it was the Queens birthday. Me and my friends went to the beach called kari kari.  and we found a little house.  It was really cool and then we went to see were the waves spash out. it was called a blow hole and we climbed on the rocks.  It blow the big one when we there.  They were never as big as it was when we were there.  So we had a lot of fun jumping in the water and so then we went home. We had a good Queen's birthday. by Alicia

On the 4th of June I went to the spca to get a cat some of the cats name where........ Sebastion, Faith, Georgie and Ben.that was only some of them there where lots more though. Ben is a Ginger cat Georgie was a black and wight sebastion is also black and wight faith is a the same tipe of cat like the school cat. then we sore some more enclosers one sertin encloser cort my eye in it was a frindley cat its name is....(not talling)

Stu Duval

On the 30th of may Stu Duval came to Oratia school. he draws, tells storys and writes books. All of the senior school went to see him in the middle block. he told us a story about Piha the story was based on a real story but he made up the names of the characters. The main people were Angus,Gary,Barry and Isabella. Gary and Bary were based on his great uncles James and John and Isabella was based on his wife. He also drew some cartoons for us and he drew a picture of piha and at the end he had a quiz on his story and gave it away to the class who answered two questions first, wich was room 24.On the 31st of may  we are having him again and he is going to give us ideas for writing.

Oratia stream trip

On the 29th of May room22 and room18 went to the oratia stream to plant.We had to buddy up with someone. I went with Riley. We had 1 spade between 2. After me and Riley planted 5 flax we went to find some more plants.And we found a ton. So I gues thats the end.

Stu Duval

On the 30th of May all the senior school got to see Stu Duval.He draw some of his cartoons for us and they were funny and excellent and he also drew a picture of Piha!!!After that he told us a "very" cool story.He got a true setting which was Piha and then the charaters were made-up.Apart from Gary and Barry, they were based on his Great-Uncles, James and John and they were both brothers like Gary and Barry and Isabella was based on Stu's wife!!!!Today the senior school is going to watch him  do "HEAPS" more cartoons and drawing!!!!

The oratia stream

On the 29th r22 and room 18 went to the oratia stream.First we walked to the hall then mrs lay cock said EVEY ONE BE QUIET because we were really loud. Then we got in our groups and walked to the Oratia sream.When we got there the lady talked. Then we started to plant we planted rimu puriri kowhai flax and ferns.Then mrs laycock said EVEY ONE GET OUT OF THE BUSHES NOW.because we have to walk back to school before the buses artrive. So we walked all the way back. I t was a fun day but it was also tiring.

next we had something to eat then we said thank you to the people   who helped us an we went on another long walk back to oratia school!. i had fun that day!!

Oratia Stream Trip

On the 29 of May room 22 and room 18 went on a trip to the Oratia stream.First we planted flax bushes pine trees Kowhai trees puriri trees and ferns.We dug the hole with spades and put the plants in with our hands for some people it was boring for some people it was fun and they enjoyed it. The planting session took up the whole day except for the morning we went after morning tea we had to walk there  the day was  fun for most people including me

in the weekend my team waitamata versed ranui it was a top of the table clash in striker was connor o in centre mid was mario left mid was pj right mid was luke left defence was ben w right defence was ben m.we started  in a couple minutes they scored . about fifteen minutes in it was 2 -0  to them my coach blain put me on for luke.in a couple of minutes we scored connor o scored it was 2-1 ranui started again and in a couple of pases i scored then i scored again in another 10 minutes i scored AGAIN and again. then some other people from my team scored at half time it was 7-2
at full time it was 11-3.

What am I

I have a short stuby tail. My chops are very flopy. I hate jumping over mud. I also hate small dogs and love big dogs. I am a tipe of dog. What am I?

netball on the weekend

On saturdy the 26th the devils had a netball game and we won.we got 19 and waitakere got 4 so we won 15 more goals than  waitakere! Alyssa from room 17 got player of the day i played WD on both queters then i playwd one queter and i was GK.we played at 11.50 on cort 17. Victoria was so cool she played GK for two quarters then WD for the third one then for the last quater of all she was GK again becauase Zaskira was away.and then the bell thing rangso we went home we got loolies and alyssa took a trophy home and a citificit on the citificit you geta free pass for west wave.On our first game that we did on saturday i got player of the day.

Animals should not be kept in zoos

I wholeheartedly  believe animals should not be Kept in zoos because they should be free and they wont be bored.

Firstly it would help them when they are free because they can find food for themselves. They would not be cooped up in cages and will be able to experience the wild life.

Did you know they are bored because their enclosures are too small? There is no room for them to play around.

They get scared of too many people. They are not used to having people looking at them all day. They should be in the wild.

I beg you to agree with me. They should not be cooped up in cages they should be free.

I strongly believe that animals should be kept in zoos because when they are in zoos you can learn about them and see them for real, it will also help them breed.

Firstly, zoos help endangered animals breed and that is a good thing, so what will become of those animals if zoos got shut down. They would become enstinked, of course. Do we want animals to become enstinked, no, so keep zoos open.

Secondly, we should keep zoos open to learn about the animals, kids find it fun to learn about animals and to know how they live and what they eat.

Thirdly, it is a chance to see animals you might never see in your whole life. It is also a great source of entertainment as they all find it fun, who doesn’t.

Zoos are great they help endangered animals breed, they teach people about animals and everyone enjoys a trip to the zoo!

In my opinion I believe that animals should be kept in zoos because if the go to the wild how will they stay alive they would not be alive.

Next you would not know what they eat. So how well you feed them. Little baby’s would not be able to hunt for their own food ‘again why I think animals should be kept in zoos.

Last you can learn what they do like do play do they dance or fight.

In concolsone that is why I think that animals should be kept in zoos.

Animals Shouldn't be kept in zoos

Animals shouldn’t be in zoos because they arnt free and here are the three resins why.

First no animals have enough space to play or hardly move around any animals even bird can’t fly in a cage if animals had enough room I would have said yes.

Next compeer animals in the wild and animals in the zoo when animals are unhappy they walk backwards and forwards that’s how you know they are angry, upset, unhappy or just sad.

Last of all zoos are selfish putting animals in wood boxes and shipping them off to zoos and taking them away from there own habitat  and  at  zoos  they don’t make the habitat look like the habitat  in the wild.

Animals should be kept in zoos

I wholeheartedly believe animals should be kept in zoos. so you can see them learn about them and they will be safe.

Animals should stay in zoos.

So people can see the animals from around the world. If you have never in your life seen them before you can see how big they are when you visit the zoo.

You can learn about animals. You can learn where they live what habitat they live in and if they are a mammal or a reptile.

Zoos keep them safe.

If you let them out they could get killed by catching diseases and getting endangered then they could extinct.

In conclusion, I believe that animals should stay in zoos, so you can learn about them and to keep them safe.

I whole heartedly believe that you oncler should stop being mean to us and stop cutting our trees down. Stop cutting our trees down IV said it once and I will say it again STOP CUTTING OUR TREES DOWN.

We’ll die if you keep cutting our trees down. The barbaloots won’t have shade if you keep cutting the tree down. 

What do you do with the leftover gloop?  I’ll show you what you do with the gloop.  You pollute my pet humming fishes water so they have to leave. 

Last of all you pollute the air cough so now I cough have to cough leave. 

Do you really think you’ll get away with this; no you won’t so take your axe somewhere else. 

Lorax

Dear Once-ler,

I AM THE LORAX, speaker for the trees and I say this and you should listen.

Do not cut down the trees, don’t pollute the water, do not pollute the air “no” you say. you cut down trees for money, your just a greedy, selfish slob.

Firstly, stop cutting down trees, I think you should stop cutting trees because I am the speaker for the trees because they have no tongues and if they did they would scream. Also the babaloots need the trees for food now there is not enough so they will have to go somewhere else. STOP CUTTING DOWN TREES!

Secondly, you are polluting the water with all that slimy gloop. The gloop is clogging up the fishes gill’s, so they will have to move too, to where I do not know. Think about wild life ONCE-LER

Last but not least, you are polluting the air so the singing swans can’t sing because they have nasty cough. Because of all that smoke your machines are making so the singing swans will have to go too . And you will do all of this because of some dumb thneed.

Once-ler if you still want to cut down trees want to make dumb thneeds you are the most power-hungry, selfish, greedy human I have ever met. Is this really what you want, are you happy now, does it make you feel good. TAKE YOUR AXE SOMEWHERE ELSE
